Soxology: Very cool gear for the upcoming Sox Season

Posted on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Miscellaneous

There are many great things about living here in Boston, but come Spring time there’s one thing that towers above the rest; the Red Sox! (And, yes, on April 20th you’ve got one of the best races in the country; the Boston Marathon.)

Being a part of Red Sox Nation is one of the best things about living here in Boston.  Whether our team is doing good or bad we’re all in it together routing for them! It’s great.

img_3210Over the years we’ve had some very cool additions that have allowed us to enjoy and celebrate our love for the Red Sox even more.  Bleacher Bar has opened it’s doors allowing patrons to see inside Fenway Park from their table while they grab a bite to eat or a cold drink.  We also now have Soxology!

Soxology could be called the unofficial gear of the Red Sox for every Sox fan here in Boston and around the country! I’ve personally own a Soxology t-shirt and love it!

Recently, I spoke with my friend Jackye, the founder of Soxology, about the Boston marathon because I’m running it and she’s very active and into marathon’s and triathlons.  I told her that I’m running it to raise $5,000 for Multiple Sclerosis under the banner of the Accelerated Cure Project.  After our conversation she has decided to offer you and all your friends an incredibly generous deal, which will support me and my efforts to help the Accelerated Cure Project beat MS.

For every Soxology t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hat you buy Soxology will donate 20% towards the Accelerated Cure Project and give you 20% off your purchase when you use the code “OBEY”! You can buy everything securely at www.Soxology.com.

Thanks in advance for supporting the cause - lets see how much we can raise together!

4 days training for the marathon with Smartwater

Posted on Monday, February 9, 2009 in Living Active

It’s been 4 days since I’ve started incorporating Smartwater into my marathon training.  In 4 days I’ve consumed 24 bottles of Smartwater (averaging 6 bottles of water per day) and have run 20 miles.  So far, it’s been great - when you compare the water to tap water there’s a huge difference.  Smartwater tastes much cleaner, more pure, and better for you.  You feel healthier just drinking it.

In regards to performance while training, I haven’t noticed anything truly different.  There hasn’t been any sudden increases in my speed or endurance; although I have had some great runs lately.  (Regardless, I’m not going to attribute the good runs to Smartwater just yet.) I’m going to continue drinking Smartwater before and after my workouts and throughout each day and report back to you about how it goes.

One question asked by a friend when I told them about Smartwater was, “Are you only drinking Smartwater?”

So far the answer is no, I have also been drinking juice, beer, and coffee made with tap water.  I’ve decided, for the next week to only drink Smartwater.  I’ll let you know how that goes…

Marathon Fundraiser Party - Feb. 12th @ Bleacher Bar

Posted on Thursday, February 5, 2009 in Boston Events

Training for the marathon has been much better than expected.  I thought that waking up early and running in sub 30 degree weather was going to be tough.  Turns out, it’s not bad with the proper gear on.  Gloves are a must!

Developing a schedule is important as well.  Personally, I know that if I don’t work out before noon it’s not going to happen - my day simply gets too busy with meetings and events going on at night. My first tip for anyone who has told themselves they don’t have time to train for the marathon (or to do anything else) is to take a look at your schedule and make time. I’ll even make the bold claim that you’ll still remain as productive as you were before you were training for the marathon.  (You’ll get to work knowing you only have an hour to finish the big project instead of two hours SO you focus, you disable g-chat, and get it done.)

So on to the point of this post - I wanted to invite you to Bleacher Bar (82a Lansdowne Street, Boston, MA) on February 12th from 7 - 10 for a party to benefit the Accelerated Cure Project, a non-profit that works to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis (the charity I’m running the marathon for). For every $5 you donate you’ll get a raffle ticket for a pair of Red Sox tickets located on the Green Monster.  We’ll be raffling off 10 pairs of tickets!! If you want to come you MUST RSVP on the Facebook invitation here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=49376912837

If you can’t come but still want to donate visit my page here: http://expansion.acceleratedcure.org/jobeymarathon

See you there!

I’ve decided to run the Boston Marathon

Posted on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 in Living Active

Photo Credit: Justin ObeySo I’ve decided to run the marathon! As one of Boston’s largest events each and every year I figured why not - I should experience this?!!

All kidding aside, the real reason I’ve decided to run the Boston Marathon this year is to support the Accelerated Cure Project and raise money to find a cure of Multiple Sclerosis. See my page here: http://expansion.acceleratedcure.org/jobeymarathon

I realize this is a huge undertaking and I don’t have much time on my hands.  (I run a company, volunteer as a Big Brother for Big Brothers Big Sisters, passionately pursue photography, read as much as possible, take Yoga to compliment the marathon training, and maintain an active social life going out 6 days a week.)   This is where I’m going to have a little fun with my training and overall marathon training experience.  I’ve decided it would be a good idea to blog about the experience of training for a marathon and how you can fit it into your active lifestyle if you wanted to.  Over the next 15 weeks you’ll be able to join me as I go through the vigor of training for one of the hardest marathon’s in the country, learn from my mistakes, and how I make time for it.

So here’s some info. you should know from the start.

  • This will be the first time I’ve run a marathon.
  • I just (Jan. 26th) decided to do this and haven’t run since October.
  • My friends and family think I’m nuts for trying to fit this into my schedule.
  • Here is my event page in case you’d like to help find a cure for MS: http://expansion.acceleratedcure.org/jobeymarathon

If you have any questions for me or want to share a little love with some supportive comments please don’t hesitate!

Mexico, the Marathon, and this week’s events!

Posted on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in Living Active

It feels like it has been an incredibly long time since I last posted. I blame it on my vacation to Acapulco, Mexico. Yes, I took a little time off to myself to relax, ponder life, and enjoy. While I was on vacation I only checked my email via my iPhone once each night - it was incredible. If you ever need a mini-vacation I suggest taking off for the weekend to some place other than your apartment/home and DO NOT use any communication device. (Bring them in case you absolutely need them, but try not to use them; you’ll come back feeling great!)

So, of course, I hit the ground running upon my return to Boston. I caught up on work and went to the Boston Blazers’ first home game! If you’ve been already, you know it’s an excellent time. I highly recommend going to anyone who enjoys an action packed game. (www.blazerslacrosse.com)

So what’s new? Many people think I’m crazy for doing this because they don’t know where I’m going to find the time to train, BUT I’ve decided to run the Boston Marathon! I’m running it with the Accelerated Cure Project in support of Multiple Sclerosis. I realize that I can’t do this all by myself and thankfully I already have had a ton of friends support me in my efforts. If you’d like to help the cause please check out my fund raising page here: http://expansion.acceleratedcure.org/jobeymarathon

As far as activities/events going on throughout the City, there’s a ton of stuff going on! I’ll post seperately about these in a few but here are a few things going on in the case you want to go seek them out on your own: The Celebration of Steven Gostkowski’s birthday at McGreevy’s on Boylston Street tomorrow night (Jan. 29th), The Boston Blazers Home Game this Saturday (Jan. 31st), The Avalanche Party at Felt on Saturday (Jan. 31st), and a Charitable Concert at the Hard Rock put on by Radio 92.9 and Ourstage in support of Camp Harbor View. There’s also the Superbowl this Sunday!

What are you doing this week/weekend?

I’ve decided to document my experiences during these two and a half month long training period via Facebook and Twitter (@justinobey).
